“An engagement ring is like a starter’s pistol.”
As many of you may know for Valentines Day I got a fiancé! And a really gorgeous ring. See below:
Really I couldn’t be more excited and its a great story.
First, he booked us for 2 nights into a suite at the Brown Palace: http://www.brownpalace.com/ – Gorgeous
When we arrived we put our bags down and then headed to their amazing spa for massages. We also got champagne and a rose. The massages were great and really kicked us off in terms of relaxation.
Clever man that he is, Luke organised for someone to set up the room while we were out. Returning to the hotel room, I opened the door to this:
and then in the living room, this:
Just so we’re all clear, on the table is:
- Bowl of conversation hearts
- Bag of Hershey kisses
- A “Love” sign
- A vase with sparkly hearts
- Cupcake tower with 12 red velvet AMAZING cupcakes on it
- A picture he had them print and frame for us
On the bed were two blue boxes which turned out to be ‘decoy gifts’ one was a fresh water pearl cuff bracelet and the other smaller box were earrings to match. Both beautiful for sure.
Then we got dressed for dinner, and as we were just about to leave he said he had one more gift, and it was a bit of a bigger one… then he got on one knee, (at which point I started to cry) and proposed.
I said yes. 🙂 obviously.
Then we headed to the Palace Arms for a 6 course Valentines Day dinner. It was amazing.
We both had oysters, a caesar salad made table-side. Luke had Bison with Fois Grois and Truffles and I had Thai Style Red Snapper which was divine. Dessert was a chocolate nougat coated in caramel with a macadamia nut bottom and chocolate ice cream that had been covered in a gold leaf – topped off with a honey praline. Neither of us had much dessert as we were rather full from dinner plus a cupcake in the room and numerous conversation hearts. 🙂
We drank great wine and the restaurant bought us a bottle of Moet which was really nice and we spent most of the time distracted by various lights hitting my ring differently. 🙂
We rang family and the next day had a celebratory lunch with mom and dad at palettes, the restaurant at the art gallery. We also had a look at the church we were thinking could be nice. We later decided it was lovely but too sketchy near by. 😦 Not to worry we’re still planning way!!! Here’s a photo of us outside the restaurant:
Since then we’ve had another mini engagement party with my grandparents and started some planning. Its amazing, it seems almost surreal! I was telling Luke that all the excitement was almost overwhelming. His response was the quote at the top, “An engagement ring is like a starter’s pistol,” and he’s absolutely right. 🙂
We’re really excited about what’s to come and will be updating details as we go. You’ll note that I’ve added another page to the blog called Wedding Planning and that is where you will find info about our plans if you’re interested.
